27th August 2017

The Scottish Mission Adventurer and Pathfinder Camporee 2017 which took place at the picturesque Seventh-day Adventist campsite in Aberdaron, Wales, was a great and enjoyable experience even for over 20 first-time campers.

Pastor Jonathan Burnett engaged campers in an all week series of message20106762_323783364715704_5177289367641990864_ns on the theme 'Restoring God's Image'. Sabbath was extra special when 15 children gave their lives to the Lord. It was a beautiful sight to see them all dressed in their smart Pathfinder and Adventurer uniform for this occasion.

The activities throughout the Camporee were able to meet the varied age range of all 70 campers. As well as the assigned work Pathfinders had to do throughout the week, time was made available for recreation where the speedboat activity and archery were the most popular. Beside this there were work chores of helping prepare meals and clean up surroundings. Lovely meals were made special by two chefs, Renee Joseph and Clive Birch, which was enjoyed by all.

We had people come from as far as London to teach some of the Pathfinder honours and Adventurer awards. We concluded our activities by participating in the Pathfinder Bible Experience (PBE), a programme that promotes and encourages in-depth Bible study and memorization. The PBE tests participants' knowledge against a global standard rather than competing IMG_0056against each other.

For a period of time before Camporee, all Pathfinders had been studying the first 3 chapters of the books of Daniel and Esther in preparation for the PBE 2018. The Adventurers gave it their absolute best for the test and the leaders awarded all achieving 90% or higher a night's stay in the luxurious Aberdaron cabins.

As with most Camporees Sabbath evening was fun and special. Pathfinders gathered around the bonfire to enjoy an array of games, stories, songs and of course popcorn.

It's always hard to say goodbye but it's even harder when you have to take down wet tents and say goodbye to a place where you have made so many memories. I'm sure every one of us is already thinking of our next Camporees which are: BUC Adventurer Camporee, 26-29 July 2018 and the TED Camporee 30 July to 6 August 2019 in England
