The day following the Glasgow ABE (Adventurer Bible Experience) team's success in Holland, on April 14th, the Glasgow SDA Church underwent a transformation as its fence received a fresh coat of bright paint. Both, Pathfinders and Adventurers, supervised by their club leader, Sipho Ncube, enthusiastically redecorated the perimeter of the building during the church's clean-up day. “They really did a marvellous job. I was so impressed with their enthusiasm and passion for keeping their church clean” Sipho commented.

The Club has also embarked on a mission to be more involved in the community. A week earlier, on April 6th, the Adventurers visited a nursing home and brightened the residents’ day with songs and rainbow and sunshine props, mirroring a similar initiative from the previous year.

The visit commenced with a brief introduction of the club, followed by the Adventurer song. The repertoire included well-known songs like “He’s got the whole world in His hands,” “Jesus wants me for a sunbeam,” and “God made the beautiful rainbow,” accompanied by hand motions. One song, “Rolling down to Jordan,” sparked excitement as everyone, officers, parents, residents, and staff, all joined in. The event was described as joyous, spiritually uplifting, and interactive. In addition to spiritual nourishment, the children brought gifts of flowers, treats, and handmade cards adorned with messages about God’s love.

Residents at the nursing home described the visit as one of the happiest days of their lives, with tears of joy visible among them. Ellen, a senior at the home, expressed her gratitude for the profound joy brought by the Adventurers, while Christie highlighted their infectious joy and the special prayer offered by Elder Phelomen Mukangiliye. Natasha Ozbey, the Acting Service Manager, expressed her gratitude for the visit, noting that everyone had a wonderful time and extending an invitation for future visits.

Reflecting on the driving forces behind the initiative, Sipho commented “Bringing older and younger generations together through praise and worship is one way to teach the children the need for us as a church to look after the elderly.”

What a wonderful demonstration of community and service!
