West of Scotland Day of Fellowship

11th May 2018

The picturesque seaside town of Troon provided the setting for this year’s combined events of the West of Scotland Day of Fellowship and the inauguration of the Irvine company as an officially recognised church. Their members were joined by those from the Paisley, Glasgow, East Kilbride and Faifley congregations in the charming Portland church to praise God for His leading during the fifty years that the Irvine group has been meeting.

Under the banner of 'Thus far has the Lord helped us' (1 Samuel 7:12), SM President Paul Tompkins highlighted the need to constantly keep in mind how our confidence and inspiration for the future is inextricably tied to our experiences of God’s faithfulness in our past.3 Pastors

The service also included the ordination of two elders (Yonah Matemba and Justin Cockett) and one deacon (David Mukisa) and musical items were in abundance with choirs blessing those present with some beautiful harmonies.

To bring the service to a fitting close, the majestic pipe organ resounded around the nave signalling the chance to catch up with friends over a memorable three course lunch (for which special thanks are due to Clive Birch and the Irvine ladies).

ChoirDuring the afternoon’s inauguration programme, Andy McKie presented a touching and emotional review of his experiences through the decades, sharing the great generosity of those who joyfully gave of their means and time to purchase Irvine’s own building and continue the services when numbers were few.

Many of the faces shown were familiar to those present, but all found it an encouragement, especially those who currently devote their efforts to sustaining small congregations. Members had a time to briefly put their love for ‘the church family’ into words, sharing the support and spiritual strength that they draw from each other, before an official declaration of the change was made by Pastor Paul Lockham and Pastor. Paul Tompkins. An unforgettable, uplifting and altogether blessed day.Stories
