Safeguarding

We are committed to ensuring our churches in Scotland serve as a refuge of safety, respect, and compassion for all. Guided by biblical principles, we are steadfast in our mission to protect the vulnerable. Through consistent effort and vigilant practices, we aim to ensure that every individual—child and adult alike—feels secure and valued in our community.

Safeguarding Policy

To uphold this responsibility, it is essential for every member of our church to be familiar with our ‘Keeping the Church Family Safeguarding Policy.’ By understanding and implementing this policy, we help create and maintain a safe and caring environment for all.

The Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme

The PVG Scheme is a system in Scotland designed to ensure that people who work with vulnerable groups, such as children or vulnerable adults, are suitable for such roles. The scheme is managed by Disclosure Scotland and helps organisations make safer recruitment decisions. It involves criminal record checks and gathers information to determine if a person is barred from working with vulnerable groups. Once an individual joins the PVG Scheme, their status is continuously monitored. If new information arises (such as a criminal conviction), organisations are notified to take appropriate action.

All church leaders in Scotland, such as Sabbath School teachers and youth leaders, are required to apply for PVG membership. This process is completed through the Scottish Mission Office.

All our pastors are members of the PVG scheme and participate in annual safeguarding training for church leaders.
