Paisley Church Climate Project
A Paisley Church has become one of the first contributors to a Scottish climate change project that partners the five African countries of eSwatini, Lesotho, Namibia, Zambia and Mozambique with Scotland’s sixteen Seventh-day Adventist churches. Led by the Church’s international aid charity, Adventist Development & Relief Agency (ADRA), it aims to share and promote practical initiatives that reduce the impact of climate change.

Three years ago, the Paisley Adventist Church provided start-up funding to West End Growing Grounds Association’s (WEGGA) Sanctuary Garden in Underwood Road Paisley. To coincide with COP 26 and, as part of the launch of the African Scottish Action Partnership (A.S.A.P.), a Church working party has helped the Association to clear and prepare beds for the next growing season.
Paisley Church Pastor, Claudiu Popescue says, “Our motivation is simple. We believe we are all stewards of God’s creation and are responsible for caring for our planet. So, naturally, we want to be part of the solution to the climate change challenge.”
WEGGA Chair, Emma Armstrong says, “We are grateful for the Church’s contribution. Helping local residents to grow their own food locally has a healthful and positive impact on climate change by reducing commercially-produced food miles and improving the environment”.
