A Letter to the Scottish Mission Family
Pastor Jimmy Botha shares a personal message of gratitude, encouragement, and blessing as he concludes his service as the Scottish Mission President.
Dear Members of the Scottish Mission Executive Committee, Pastors, Departmental Sponsors, Office Staff, Church Officers, and Members.
Grace and peace to you in the name of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
As I conclude my service as President of the Scottish Mission, I have found myself reflecting with deep gratitude on the privilege God has given me to serve alongside you over these past years.
Church leadership is never about a position; it is about stewardship. I remain profoundly grateful that the Lord entrusted me with the opportunity to serve the churches, pastors, members, and communities of Scotland during this season of our Mission's journey.
Together we have witnessed God's faithfulness in remarkable ways. By God's grace we have seen healthy growth in membership, strengthened governance, increasing financial stability, renewed emphasis on leadership development, expanded training opportunities, church-planting conversations, volunteer initiatives, and a growing culture of collaboration across our churches. None of these achievements belong to any one individual. They have been the result of pastors, elders, sponsors, volunteers, office staff, Executive Committee members, and countless faithful church members who quietly give of themselves for the cause of Christ.
Our strategic theme, Gratefully Received, Abundantly Shared, has remained close to my heart. I continue to believe that everything we receive from God – His grace, His gifts, the opportunities He provides, and His blessings – is entrusted to us so that it may be shared generously with others. I pray that this spirit will continue to shape the life and mission of the Scottish Mission for many years to come.
I wish to express my heartfelt thanks to every pastor who has faithfully cared for God's people, often under demanding circumstances. Thank you for your friendship, your counsel, your prayers, and your commitment to the gospel.
To our Executive Committee members, thank you for your wisdom, careful deliberation, encouragement, and willingness to carry significant responsibility on behalf of the Mission.
To our departmental sponsors and volunteers, thank you for giving your time, talents, and energy so willingly. Your ministry has strengthened churches, encouraged members, and helped extend the reach of the gospel throughout Scotland.
To Hellevi, our Administrative Secretary and Communications Manager, thank you for your professionalism, patience, diligence, and cheerful service. Much of what the Mission accomplishes happens quietly behind the scenes, and I have been continually grateful for your dedicated support.
Most importantly, I want to thank every member of the Scottish Mission. Your love for Christ, your generosity, your prayers, your faithfulness, and your desire to see God's kingdom grow have been a constant source of encouragement to me. Serving you has been one of the greatest privileges of my ministry.
Although my formal responsibilities now come to an end, my affection for the people of Scotland does not. Scotland has become a part of my heart. Cedrene and I will continue to pray for the churches, pastors, leaders, and members across this beautiful country. We ask God to bless you abundantly as you continue His work.
I also encourage every member to extend your prayers, encouragement, confidence, and support to those who now assume responsibility for leading the Scottish Mission. The mission of God has always been greater than any one individual. Christ remains the Head of His Church, and He will continue to guide His people as they seek His will together.
The Apostle Paul wrote to the believers in Philippi:
"I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel... being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus."
Those words express my own heart today.
Thank you for allowing me to walk this part of the journey with you. Thank you for your kindness, your friendship, and your partnership in the gospel. Above all, thank you for pointing me continually to Christ, whose grace has and will continue to sustain us all.
May God richly bless the Scottish Mission as, together, you continue to proclaim the everlasting gospel with faith, humility, courage, and hope.
Yours in Christ's service,
Pastor Jimmy Botha
