A Memorable Camp Experience for Aberdeen Pathfinders and Adventurers

The Aberdeen Adventurer Club held its annual camp from 10–13 July at Templar's Park Scout Campsite, Maryculter, near Aberdeen. Emma Kamudyariwa, one of the three Pathfinders who attended, shares her reflections on the weekend.

On Friday 10 July, our campers hit the ground running with unpacking, pitching tents, singing songs around the campfire, and enjoying one of the best dinners ever, if we do say so ourselves! It was prepared by our amazing kitchen team, and we want to say a big thank you for all their hard work.

The children participated in a wide range of faith-based activities and talks, strengthening their bond with Christ through the theme, "Faith Strong, Stay Strong!" Each day at camp began with morning worship, where we sang songs, prayed, and enjoyed a wonderful lesson about faith. Afterwards, we had a delicious breakfast before heading off for the day's activities.

On Friday evening, we held our first campfire programme. We were honoured to be joined by our sponsor, Mthoko Ndlovu, who sang and prayed with us. It was a privilege to have her there.

Sabbath School began with the Prayer Warrior Honour, presented by one of the Pathfinders, and ended with a prayer walk to one of the many ridges around the campsite. During the Divine Service, a scavenger hunt was organised. The clues were tricky, but we were determined and successfully won our prizes! Each clue came with a special message about faith, making the activity both fun and meaningful.

The afternoon was filled with nature adventures. The three Pathfinders attending camp went on an 8 km hike, surrounded by trees, birds, rivers, and even the occasional bunny or two. While the Pathfinders were exploring, the Adventurers were busy discovering nature, learning about trees, and appreciating more of God's beautiful creation.

In the evening, the Adventurers wowed us all while completing their Troubadour Honour. They shook maracas and showed off their fantastic acting skills. Great job, Adventurers!

Sunday was an action-packed day with no time to spare! The younger Adventurers headed to the sandpit in search of hidden treasures. Our little explorers had great fun working on the Sand Art and Gadgets and Sand Honours, digging through the sand, measuring, and discovering all sorts of hidden surprises.

Meanwhile, the Pathfinders and older Adventurers entered the world of ropes and knots. They became masters of the granny knot, square knot, bow knot, and many more. We don't think anyone will have trouble tying their shoelaces in the future!

Next, it was time to paint. The younger Adventurers created magnificent works of art incorporating sand, while the older children showcased artwork ranging from star-gazing nights to beautiful fruit. What we can say is that everyone enjoyed painting and using their imagination.

I am a huge, ooey-gooey, round mess filled with chocolate goodness that proved a firm favourite! If you haven't guessed already, the Adventurers made chocolate chip cookies. They were hard at work in the kitchen completing their Baking Honour and creating delicious chocolatey masterpieces for everyone to enjoy. Yum!

The Pathfinders couldn't join in on the baking fun because they were busy learning how to use an axe and a knife safely. Yes, really! They learned the correct techniques for chopping wood without endangering themselves or others. They also practised woodcraft skills and attempted to make walking sticks that looked a bit like Olympic torches. Don't worry though, nobody lost a finger... or a toe!

Speaking of the Olympics, let's move on to the First Annual Granite Club Olympics! The children helped create an Olympic banner and rings before taking part in the events. The next few hours were filled with whistles, cheering, and excitement. At the end of the day, everyone was a winner, so every participant received a medal. Hooray!

Then came the social event many campers had been waiting for... the BBQ! The sounds of sizzling food, crackling fires, and happy chatter filled the evening air. It was the perfect way to round off our final night at camp. After taking part in so many other activities, including an adventure obstacle course and the Fitness Fun Honour, everyone couldn't wait to climb into bed after an exhausting but awesome day.

Monday was a busy morning of packing, cleaning, and finishing off the last treats. After all the hard work was done, everyone enjoyed cake, ice lollies, and refreshing juice. We all finally received our beautiful camp patches. Yay!

Finally, it was time to say goodbye. Although the camp had come to an end, everyone went home with wonderful memories. It will be remembered as a fun, exciting, and faith-filled adventure that we hope will continue for many years to come.
