ADRA-UK Provides Support to Scottish Community Initiatives
The Cook-Inn has been operational for the past two and half years and has continued to provide assistance for up to 250 beneficiaries per week during the lockdown caused by the contagion, COVID-19
"Without your service, I couldn’t possibly afford to heat my house." These are the words of an informed elderly recipient of the services of the Cook-Inn, run by the Edinburgh and Musselburgh churches.
The Cook-Inn has been operational for the past two and half years and has continued to provide assistance for up to 250 beneficiaries per week during the lockdown caused by the contagion, COVID-19. With an average of 12 volunteers each week, they have catered to the food security needs of rough sleepers, those with mental health issues, young families on low income and refugees and asylum seekers.
Not only does the Cook-Inn provide dry foods to their beneficiaries, but they prepare soup and fresh rolls on a weekly basis and with their partnerships with four of the nation’s largest supermarkets, they have been able to feed over 16,000 people since they opened their doors.
"We are excited to be partnering with the Cook-Inn in the Edinburgh district, through our I AM Urban initiative," said Bert Smit, CEO of ADRA-UK. "They’ve done some amazing work over the years, and continue to assist the neediest, especially during this very difficult time. Instead of stepping back, they have stepped up in harmony with ADRA’s values of justice, compassion and love in emergency situations."
ADRA-UK is currently supporting 20 community hubs around the United Kingdom during the COVID-19 crisis. If you wish to donate to ADRA’s COVID-19 Emergency Appeal, please go to www.adra.org.uk
