Pastor Weiers Coetser Appointed Executive Secretary of the Scottish Mission
The appointment strengthens the Scottish Mission’s leadership team as it continues its longer-term journey towards conference status.
Following its meeting on 10 September 2026, the British Union Conference (BUC) Executive Committee appointed Pastor Weiers Coetser as Executive Secretary of the Scottish Mission on a part-time basis.
Coetser joined the Scottish Mission in January 2022 and has served as pastor of the Aberdeen District. He brings nearly two decades of pastoral and ministry experience within the British Union Conference, having served in the BUC since 2008.
Prior to coming to Scotland, he spent 12 years in the Irish Mission and three years in the South England Conference. He holds a BA in Theology from Helderberg College and an MA in Theology from Newbold College, as well as a Postgraduate Certificate in Education.
The appointment comes at a significant point in the continued development of the Scottish Mission. Strengthening its leadership and administrative capacity is an important part of supporting the growing Church in Scotland and represents another step in the Mission’s longer-term journey towards conference status.
In his new role, Coetser will serve as one of the officers of the Scottish Mission, working alongside President Pastor Obinnaya Iheoma, Treasurer Aftab Barki and the wider leadership team in supporting the Mission’s churches, pastors and ministry across Scotland. Alongside his new responsibilities, he will continue to serve as a pastor in the Aberdeen District.
The Scottish Mission warmly welcomes Coetser to this new responsibility and looks forward to his contribution as the Church continues to grow and develop its mission across Scotland.
