Behind the Scenes of the 62nd General Conference Session

Scottish volunteer Adina Lupu’s impactful service in the Prayer Room and engagement in revival events at the 62nd General Conference Session underscored Scotland’s active role in the global spiritual renewal of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Earlier this month, thousands of Seventh-day Adventists from around the world came together in St. Louis, Missouri, for the 62nd General Conference (GC) Session—our church’s largest global gathering. While the focus was on key decision-making for the future of the Church, one of the most powerful aspects of the session took place quietly in the background – prayer.

At the heart of the bustling convention centre was the GC Prayer Room, described by some as “the heart of the GC Session.” This quiet sanctuary offered space for reflection, united prayer, and spiritual renewal. Volunteers from around the world gathered there to intercede for the meetings, church leaders, and the global Church, asking for the Holy Spirit’s guidance in every decision. One delegate had noted that during the business sessions, when difficult topics seemed stalled, sudden shifts in tone and direction often occurred—changes many attributed to the Holy Spirit at work in response to prayer. Attendees with personal needs also found comfort and encouragement in the Prayer Room, as caring team members prayed with and for them.

Among the international volunteers serving in the Prayer Room was Adina Lupu, a member of the Glasgow Church within the Scottish Mission. Reflecting on her time there, she described the experience as “unique, humbling, and restoring.”

“It was inspiring to see just how many nations were represented at the Session, all united under same values and purpose,” she said. “The Exhibition Hall featured a variety of ministries supporting the Church’s mission. To witness even a small sample of the outreach happening globally—and learn how it impacts communities—was eye-opening. God is changing the world in many positive ways through these ministries. There's a hustle and bustle of worldwide activity in sharing the Gospel, and I’m so encouraged by what God is doing.”

Lupu also shared how this experience reaffirmed her personal calling to the prayer ministry and how witnessing the unity of mind and purpose among the diverse group of volunteers had been one of the most transformational experiences of her life.

A notable new addition to this year’s Session was the Back to the Altar revival series, led by Pastor Don MacLafferty, author of The Way Back to the Altar and founder of In Discipleship.  Drawing on the life of Elijah, attendees were challenged to confront personal idols, heal from spiritual wounds, and recommit to daily discipleship. Morning sessions focused on personal revival, while afternoons called attendees to live as true disciples of Jesus in practical, everyday ways—including sacrificial love for family, deeper devotion, and missional living.

The series proved especially meaningful for Lupu, becoming a moment of deep spiritual significance. She described experiencing “God’s presence in a very tangible way,” not only through the Holy Spirit’s work in her own heart but also in witnessing transformation in others.

Scotland was also represented in the official business sessions by Laura Kazuwa, who served as a voting delegate—underscoring the region’s commitment and engagement on the global stage.

As the 62nd General Conference Session came to a close, it left behind more than just decisions and reports—it left a renewed sense of spiritual purpose, global unity, and personal calling. For many, including Adina Lupu, the experience served as a powerful reminder that beyond policies and proceedings, it is prayer, revival, and a shared commitment to Christ that unite the global Adventist family, guiding the Church forward with hope and purpose.

Following the inspiring spirit of the General Conference Session, the journey of revival continues locally with “The Last Elijah” revival meetings taking place at the Glasgow church from 21st to 24th August, featuring Pastor Don MacLafferty. Everyone is welcome.
