Crieff Church Partners with CAP to Tackle Poverty
Christians Against Poverty (CAP) is a charity dedicated to helping individuals and families break free from financial hardship. Through expert debt counselling, budgeting support, and practical assistance, CAP empowers people to regain control of their finances and build a secure future. Working in partnership with local churches, the charity also offers emotional and spiritual support, ensuring that no one has to face financial struggles alone.
Crieff Church is among many churches across the UK that are committed to tackling the causes of poverty in their local area by partnering with Christians Against Poverty (CAP). By offering free debt help and support through community groups, CAP is making a significant impact in the fight against poverty, which often isolates individuals, strains families, and leaves many feeling hopeless.
Last autumn, Malcolm Hayles, a CAP representative from Crieff Church, delivered a CAP presentation at a local charity. Among those attending was a young single mother. After the meeting, she confided that her life was in turmoil. She could no longer work due to health issues. She had not opened any of her bills for months, was unaware of her total debt, and was surprised that her gas and electricity services remained connected.
When she met Malcolm, her situation was challenging — she faced difficult personal circumstances and felt uncertain about the future.
Malcolm’s colleague from CAP began a series of visits with the young lady, working closely to address her situation. As a result of his efforts, significant improvements were made in her circumstances.
Earlier this week, Malcolm's colleague received an email from the young lady stating that she was struggling to understand how her life had completely turned around and how happy she was as she looked forward to starting a new chapter in her life with the ongoing support of various local services. She attributed this transformation to the input and support of CAP over the last few months, calling it 'an answer to prayer'.
This is just one example of CAP’s work, which has been changing lives for nearly 30 years — always at no cost to those in need. CAP represents Christianity in action, offering both practical and spiritual support to those facing hardship.
