Diamond Wedding Celebration at Dundee Church

Marking a milestone of devotion, Dundee Church celebrates the 60-year union of Pastor Neil and Paula Robertson, honouring their faith, love, and service to the community.

Sabbath 31st May was made more special by the Pastor and members celebrating with retirees, Pastor Neil and Paula Robertson, their Diamond Wedding anniversary.  Pastor Njabulo Ndlovu gave them the challenge of defining the recipe for a successful 60 years of marriage.  Pastor Neil responded by highlighting the Bible principles of mutual respect, equality and love as portrayed by apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 13.  He concluded with a verse from a children’s hymn: “’Tis love that makes us happy, ‘Tis love that smooths the way; It helps us mind, it makes us kind to others every day."

The church hall was decorated like a wedding reception with a sumptuous pot-luck meal.  After the cutting of the cake, Pastor Neil presented a PowerPoint portrait of his and Paula’s journey from birth to the present.  He was born just two miles from the original Newbold College near Rugby, and eight years later, moved with his family to Scotland where his parents became founder members of Dundee church.

A love that began at Newbold College led Pastor Neil and Paula Robertson to marriage in June 1965, followed by 60 years of devoted service and ministry.

Paula was born in Bracknell into a non-Adventist home.  It was a mile and a half from the current Newbold College, and she first attended Newbold Church school as a child, then later was a student at the college, and this is where they met.  Two days after graduation they got married on the first of June 1965.

Pastor Neil’s ministry started in London, then moving on to Southend in Essex where their first daughter, Lynn, was born.  The next move was to Devon where their second daughter, Lorna, was born in the flat under the church in Torquay.  The pastoral journey took them to the end of the South England Conference in Cornwall.  From there, a short jump over the Bristol Channel into the Welsh Mission and several churches in the south.  Here, responsibilities were added in training interns, Pastor John Surridge and Alvern McCrow, and several years as the Welsh Mission Youth Sponsor.  The final leg of the journey found them working in the North England Conference office with Paula working as a secretary and Pastor Neil in the treasury department ultimately becoming the Associate Treasurer.  His other responsibilities covered Stewardship and Trust Services.

In 2004, they retired and moved to Scotland, making Dundee Church their spiritual home where they have willingly served in various capacities. Their faithful service has been a blessing to all other churches especially for Pastor Neil’s work in designing and supporting Treasury related material across the Scottish Mission.

Pastor Neil says they are still to discover what retirement is but thank God for His guidance and blessings in their lives.
