Dundee Celebrates World Pathfinder Day with Two Baptisms

Celebrating 76 years of the Pathfinder movement, Dundee Seventh-day Adventist Church marked World Pathfinder Day with two baptisms, youth-led worship and community service.

Dundee Seventh-day Adventist Church joined Pathfinders around the world on Saturday, 19 September, to celebrate 76 years of the Pathfinder movement with a day of worship, baptism and community service centred on the theme, “Speak, Lord.”

Drawing on the story of the young Samuel, the theme encouraged Pathfinders and church members alike to listen for God’s voice and be ready to respond to His call. That call took on particular significance at the close of Sabbath School, when Pastor Renaldo Hines, local church minister, led Jonas Davies-Browne and Benjamin Uche Ihesiulor through their baptismal vows. The two young men were then baptised, publicly affirming their commitment to follow Christ. As active Pathfinders, their decision was especially meaningful for the leaders, parents and wider church family who have helped nurture their faith.

The Pathfinders continued to take an active role during the Divine Service, which opened with a processional involving the young people and their officers. Also joining the congregation was Mthokozisi Ndlovu, wife of BUC Youth Director Pastor Njay Ndlovu, who presented Jonas and Benjamin with gifts from the BUC Youth Department to mark their baptism.

Throughout the service, the Pathfinders contributed in a variety of roles in worship and ministry. Two Pathfinders delivered the sermon, “Learning to Hear God’s Voice,” based on Psalm 46:10: “Be still, and know that I am God.” Echoing the theme of the day, their message encouraged the congregation to make space for stillness, listen for God’s voice and remain open to His leading.

In the afternoon, the emphasis shifted from worship to practical service, as the Pathfinders took part in an environmental care activity at a local park. Working together, they collected litter and helped care for the surrounding area, putting their commitment to Christian service into practice within the local community.

Together, the different elements of the day reflected the wider purpose of Pathfinder ministry: young people participating in worship, sharing God’s Word, making personal commitments to Christ and serving their community.

As Jonas and Benjamin begin this new chapter in their Christian journey, the Dundee church family celebrates their decision and prays that they will continue to hear God’s voice and faithfully respond to His call: “Speak, Lord, for Your servant hears.”
