Dundee Church Member Receives National Recognition for Outstanding Excellence in Care
Olanrewaju (Larry) Adegbite, a dedicated nurse at South Grange Nursing Home in Dundee, has become a beacon of excellence in the care sector, earning national recognition.
Responding to Scotland’s growing need for healthcare professionals, Larry relocated from Nigeria to Scotland in 2021. His commitment to outstanding care was highlighted in November 2023 when he was honoured as the regional winner at the prestigious Great British Care Awards in the ‘Care Assessor and Care Planner’ category.
Building on this success, Larry received further accolades in June 2024 at the National Stars of Social Care Awards, where he was highly commended as an exceptional care home nurse. His dedication to improving the lives of his residents also earned him the Dementia Frontline Leader Award at Dementia Care Awards. These honours reflect the positive influence Larry has had on his residents, their families, and his colleagues.
When asked about the principles that have driven his success, Larry attributes his achievements to the values instilled in him by his family: hard work, perseverance, and a positive outlook. “I was brought up to never give up easily and to always look at the positive side of every opportunity,” Larry shared. “I read a lot and ask a lot of questions. I never assume I know everything; asking questions helps me perform my duties to the best of my ability.”
Reflecting on his awards, Larry expressed immense delight and gratitude. “It’s an honour to be recognised and noticed for my work. It encourages me to do even more for the people I care for,” he said. Larry’s passion and commitment to his profession are evident in the lives he touches every day, making him a cherished member of both the South Grange Nursing Home and the wider care community.
Larry also serves as the deacon and assistant leader of club ministries in the Dundee Seventh-day Adventist Church. Commenting on Larry’s achievements, his local Pastor, Njabulo Ndlovu, said, “Larry’s dedication and accomplishments not only bring pride to his family and our congregation but also serve as an inspiration to us all. Empowered by God’s Spirit and with the support of people around us, each of us can thrive and flourish in faithful service wherever we are. At Dundee Church, our vision is to be a welcoming home for everyone, built on our love for God, our desire to learn more about Jesus, and our commitment to showing love to others. Larry plays an integral part in realising this vision through the practical love he extends to others, and our church community is delighted to celebrate his successes with him, his supportive and loving wife Somi, and their lovely daughter, Praise.”
