Elgin Group Hosts First Community Christmas Carol Service
Welcoming the festive season, the Elgin Group hosted its first Community Christmas Carol Service, bringing together local residents for music, reflection, and fellowship.
On Saturday, December 6, 2025, the Elgin Group welcomed the festive season by hosting its first Community Christmas Carol Service, bringing together local residents and people from diverse backgrounds for a day of fellowship, reflection, and music.
The day began with a Holy Communion Service, offering attendees a moment of solemn reflection and connection. This was followed by a community lunch, where shared meals fostered conversation, camaraderie, and new friendships in anticipation of the afternoon programme.
The afternoon programme, hosted by Pastor Wil Masih, featured a diverse range of musical performances. Traditional favourites such as Away in a Manger and Silent Night were complemented by contemporary and country-style carols, as well as songs in Romanian and Shona, a language spoken in Zimbabwe. Performers included local musicians Hunter JH Buchanan, Trevor James Mair, and Jackline Marira, along with the Elgin SDA Singing Group, whose voices added depth and character to the festive melodies. Bassist Bradley provided a solid musical foundation that elevated every performance.
Audience participation was a notable feature of the carol service, with attendees joining in several songs throughout the programme. The collective singing contributed to a lively and engaging atmosphere, reflecting the event’s emphasis on community involvement and shared celebration.
Among the attendees was Helen, a first-time visitor, who described the gathering as “an inspirational gathering of local people” and expressed her intention to encourage others to attend future events.
The event concluded on a high note, leaving organisers and attendees with a sense of achievement and strengthened community spirit. Encouraged by its success, the Elgin Group has already announced plans to expand the Community Carol Service next year, aiming to make it a lasting annual tradition that spreads Christmas joy and deepens local connections.
