Glasgow Adventist Gospel Choir Brings Joy to Ashgill Care Home on Father's Day
A Father's Day visit by the Glasgow Adventist Gospel Choir brought comfort, hope, and joyful fellowship to residents and staff at Ashgill Care Home through an uplifting programme of gospel music.
On 20 June 2026, the Glasgow Adventist Gospel Choir visited Ashgill Care Home for a special Father’s Day programme, bringing music and encouragement to both residents and staff. Led by conductor, Maestro Samuel Santos, the choir performed a selection of gospel songs that were warmly received throughout the afternoon.
The visit was marked by smiles, singing, active participation, and fellowship, as many residents sang along with the choir, engaged with the performers, and responded warmly throughout the programme. As the choir ministered, Maestro Santos paused between songs to highlight the spiritual message of each hymn and the hope found in Christ through the music. Following the performance, residents and choir members shared refreshments and enjoyed friendly conversation and mutual encouragement.
"The performance was absolutely amazing," said staff member Sladana Kablar. She added that it deeply moved the residents, especially as it was Father’s Day, a special occasion for them. "Through the songs you sang, we could feel your compassion and your desire to connect with those living with memory loss, bringing comfort and hope through music." She expressed hope that the choir would return for another visit.
One of the afternoon’s most memorable moments occurred when a resident requested the hymn "Jesus Loves Me, This I Know." Although it was not part of the choir’s planned repertoire, the group gladly responded by inviting everyone present to join in singing.
Another notable moment involved a resident whom staff said lives with significant memory loss and is usually unresponsive to her surroundings. During the choir’s performance, she became tearful as the songs were sung. Staff suggested that the music may have evoked cherished memories, prompting her emotional response.
The visit concluded with the care home manager inviting the residents to the front for a group photo with the choir. The invitation was warmly welcomed by those present. The choir’s founder and pastor of the Glasgow Seventh-day Adventist Church, Claudiu Popescu, described the gesture as a reflection of the trust and relationship that have developed between Ashgill Care Home and the Glasgow Adventist Gospel Choir through their visits.
Pastor Popescu expressed his appreciation to the choir members following the outreach, thanking them for their time and commitment during a busy weekend of rehearsals and ministry from Friday to Sunday. He noted that the visit reflected the purpose of the music ministry, describing it as an opportunity to connect with the community and offer encouragement, hope, and spiritual uplift through song. He also commended the members for maintaining "high standards," encouraging them to continue in prayer and unity as they look ahead to future ministry engagements.
This was the choir's second visit to Ashgill Care Home, following a Christmas programme in 2025. The Father’s Day programme further strengthened the relationship between the choir and the care home community, reflecting the ongoing impact of music ministry in supporting and encouraging residents.
