Glasgow Adventist Gospel Choir Celebrates Mother's Day Through Music and Outreach

The Glasgow Adventist Gospel Choir (GAGC) celebrated Mother’s Day with a moving concert at Beatson Cancer Hospital, using music as a source of solace and encouragement to uplift patients and their families as part of an ongoing community outreach initiative.

As the sun shone warmly over Glasgow, Mother’s Day celebrations took on a special meaning at the Beatson Cancer Hospital. The Glasgow Adventist Gospel Choir (GAGC), led by Maestro Samuel Santos, marked the occasion with a moving concert in partnership with Beatson Cancer Charity, bringing joy and comfort to patients and their visitors.

This performance was part of Glasgow Church’s yearlong outreach initiative, which includes monthly concerts at various institutions and regular musical visits to the hospital’s Wellbeing Centre. The initiative aims to use music as a bridge to connect with the community in a meaningful way.

Under the leadership of Maestro Samuel Santos, GAGC has grown into the church’s primary evangelistic tool. The choir’s rigorous rehearsals and expanding repertoire reflect a commitment to excellence and outreach. Maestro Santos, with vast experience conducting concerts across Europe –including performances in various churches and even at the Colosseum in Rome – has inspired the choir members to develop their musical talents while sharing the gospel message.

The concert programme featured well-loved songs such as You Raise Me Up, Amazing Grace, and Happy Day, encouraging audience participation. Other selections, including The Wayfaring Stranger, Hallelujah Israel 1979, and Musica es Pacem, offered a diverse musical experience, with lyrics in multiple languages, to engage a wide audience.

Attendees expressed their gratitude, with some describing the experience as uplifting. The collaboration with the Beatson Wellbeing Centre staff, who actively promote the concerts among patients and visitors, has been instrumental in the success of these performances.

Felix, a young GAGC member, shared his enthusiasm: “My experience was wonderful. It was nice to see plenty of young and elderly people alike there supporting us as we sang. It was also nice to be able to go out and sing for others about Jesus’s wonderful love.”

Beyond community outreach, the GAGC has fostered friendships and strengthened relationships within the Glasgow Church. Maestro Santos’s passion for music continues to inspire choir members, ensuring high attendance at rehearsals and events.

Pastor Claudiu Popescu, the driving force behind the partnership with Beatson Cancer Charity and a GAGC member, emphasised the significance of the event: “Celebrating Mother’s Day is a cherished tradition in Glasgow Church that brings families together. I’m very grateful to the choir members – especially the mothers – who chose to celebrate this day by singing for cancer patients and their relatives at Beatson Hospital. It’s inspiring to see how music can bring hope and comfort.”

The Glasgow Adventist Gospel Choir’s commitment to using music as a source of solace and encouragement continues to leave a profound impact, bringing moments of joy to those who need it most.
