Glasgow Adventist Gospel Choir Extends Ministry Beyond Scotland

For the first time, the Glasgow Adventist Gospel Choir (GAGC) took its ministry beyond Scotland, travelling to Newbold College of Higher Education to participate in the International Ellen G. White Youth Symposium, held from 11–12 September 2026.

Organised by the Ellen G. White Research Centre in partnership with several church organisations, the symposium explored the prophetic gift and its relevance for Christian life today. Under the theme “God Has a Big Mouth!”, main guest speaker Pastor Dwain Esmond, Associate Director of the Ellen G. White Estate, joined a range of speakers in examining Ellen G. White’s ministry and personal faith, alongside the wider calling to live out and share faith with others.

GAGC contributed to the Sabbath morning programme on 12 September, singing “To His Glory”, a reflection on the majesty, power and saving work of Jesus. The choir later returned to the stage for the closing concert, with Pastor Rory Mendez, Director of the Ellen G. White Research Centre, describing its contribution as “not simply a performance, but an act of worship”.

The closing concert formed part of the symposium’s particular focus on engaging young people, while GAGC brought an intergenerational dimension, with adults and younger members ministering together through music – an approach Pastor Njabulo Ndlovu, British Union Conference Youth Director, said the Youth Department seeks to encourage.

The choir’s final contribution gave musical expression to the symposium’s call to put faith into practice. Pastor Claudiu Popescu, founder and member of GAGC, had been invited to offer the closing prayer but instead chose to have the choir express it through music. GAGC concluded the symposium with “Amen”, an arrangement of the traditional song incorporating a section of “This Little Light of Mine”.

“The purpose of this symposium was not merely to acquire knowledge, but to live out what we have learned,” Pastor Popescu explained. “We want to allow God’s light to shine through our lives, enabling us to become vessels of His love and grace as we await the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.”

The visit to Newbold marked GAGC’s first ministry engagement beyond Scotland and provided an opportunity for adults and young people to worship and serve together through music.

Following its return to Scotland, the choir participated in the Scottish Mission Day of Fellowship on 26 September. Further engagements are planned in Campbeltown on 28 November and Renfrewshire on 29 November.
