Glasgow Adventurers Take a Fresh Approach to World Adventurer Day

Moving beyond a traditional indoor celebration, Glasgow Adventurers marked World Adventurer Day with a unique programme that connected faith, nature, creativity, and community.

More than 100 Adventurers, parents, siblings, and officers from Glasgow Seventh-day Adventist Church celebrated World Adventurer Day at Strathclyde Country Park on 16 May 2026, combining outdoor learning, worship, and fellowship under the theme, “Walking with Jesus Helps Us Grow.”

The day-long programme was designed as a full Sabbath experience in nature, bringing together faith, learning, and recreation in an outdoor setting.

Preparing for the Day Through Craftsmanship

Preparations for the celebration began a month earlier, on 16 April, with a Craft Day that introduced the event theme through butterfly-themed diamond painting activities. Inspired by 2 Corinthians 5:17, the crafts illustrated spiritual growth and transformation, using the butterfly's lifecycle as a symbol of the Holy Spirit's work in the life of a believer.

Each Adventurer created a piece of artwork that will be framed and sold as part of a fundraising initiative for the club. The activity also provided an opportunity for children to reflect on the theme, “Walking with Jesus Helps Us Grow.”

Through butterfly diamond painting activities, Adventurers learned how the butterfly's transformation mirrors the spiritual growth that takes place when Jesus works in the life of a believer.

Glasgow Adventurer Club Director, Blandine Damtse, commended the 12 officers who met consistently every Tuesday evening for six weeks to prepare both the Craft Day and Sabbath in Nature programmes. Parents were also recognised for their strong involvement and generous support.

Discovering God's Creation at Amazonia

The World Adventurer Day programme began with a bus journey to Strathclyde Country Park, where the children, dressed in their field uniforms, visited Amazonia, a tropical rainforest attraction. During guided tours and animal handling sessions, they observed a variety of creatures, including monkeys, pythons, fish, birds, and insects, while learning more about God's creation.

Through hands-on encounters with animals and guided learning activities, Adventurers explored the wonders of creation and discovered new insights about the world around them.

Nature Walk and Outdoor Awards

Following the visit, the Adventurers participated in a nature walk and completed a range of awards, including Prayer Warrior, Outdoor Explorer, Friend of Nature, and Scavenger Hunt. Working in groups, they used magnifying glasses and observation skills to examine leaves, flowers, tree bark, insects, and other features of the natural environment, deepening their appreciation of the world around them.

The nature walk concluded with worship in the park as the group gathered to continue the Sabbath programme in a spirit of reverence and joy.

Worship, Fellowship and Games

The worship service featured praise and worship, including the theme songs “Walking with Jesus” and “Jesus on the Inside, Working on the Outside,” accompanied by action songs. Ogechi Ochechuku-Nwosu delivered an interactive sermonette that connected the Craft Day, Amazonia visit, and nature walk to the day's theme, highlighting how spiritual growth takes place when Jesus dwells within believers, transforming them from the inside out.

Several Adventurers described the message as “engaging”, “joyful”, and “one of the best children's sermons they had ever heard”.

Following the service, families shared a fellowship lunch at the Rainbow Pavilion, with food provided through generous contributions from parents. The celebration also included Adventurer Day cake, ice cream, and a birthday celebration for one of the Adventurers.

The World Adventurer Day cake served as a sweet reminder of a day spent growing in faith, friendship, and appreciation for God's creation.

The afternoon games session, led by Blandine Damtse and Adventurer Club Deputy Director Inga Samson, brought laughter, energy, and enthusiastic participation from the children. A creative litter-picking challenge transformed tidying up into a fun activity, leaving the field clean within minutes.

The children later enjoyed free play before the group gathered for a closing prayer. Shortly after boarding the bus for the journey home, rain began to fall. Many participants viewed the timing as a special blessing and a reminder of God's care throughout the day.

Several Adventurers described the event as their best World Adventurer Day celebration yet, with some expressing a wish to spend every Sabbath in nature.

The day concluded with gratitude and praise to God for His guidance, protection, and blessings throughout the celebration.
