Glasgow Church Ignites Revival with Last Elijah Series
Focusing on Jesus’ greatness over life’s struggles, the Last Elijah Revival Series at Glasgow Church inspired over 200 attendees to deepen their faith, strengthen families, and embrace Spirit-led discipleship.
“Revival begins when we focus on Jesus’ greatness instead of our problems,” said Pr Don MacLafferty*, setting the tone for the Last Elijah Revival Series held at Glasgow Church from 21–24 August 2025, where those present were inspired to deepen their faith, embrace daily family worship, and unite as a church devoted to worshipping Jesus in Spirit and truth.
The first two evenings each attracted nearly 60 attendees, swelling to over 200 on Sabbath. On Thursday, Pr Don urged members to shift their focus from life’s “Ahabs”—struggles with health, work, family, or relationships—and fix their eyes on God. Friday’s session focused on obedience to God’s Word. “Elijah obeyed immediately—there was no gap between God’s command and his response,” Pastor Don said, noting that true faith acts without hesitation or delay.

On Sabbath, the church was filled to capacity with members and visitors from across the Scottish Mission. During Sabbath School, Pr Don called for family renewal, emphasising forgiveness, healing, and the sacred duty of parents, concluding with a prayer for God’s “heart surgery” in households. The divine service included the building of a symbolic twelve-stone altar, inspiring daily worship. Pastor Don urged believers to live out their faith every day. He closed with a consecration prayer as many responded to the call for baptism. The afternoon focused on Elijah’s sacrifice on Mount Carmel. Pr Don explained that just as God revealed His power then, the Holy Spirit today removes distractions and empowers families, churches, and communities to witness boldly. He encouraged the use of Scripture combined with Spirit-led testimony to share the gospel effectively.
The revival weekend concluded on Sunday morning with a brunch and a final session illustrating how God sustained Elijah even at his lowest point. “Even godly people can face depression and discouragement, but God is always there,” Pr Don reminded attendees. The message emphasised running to Jesus, trusting that He runs with us, and living free from fear even in times of trial.
Pr Don brought Elijah’s story from 1 and 2 Kings to life through storytelling, vivid illustrations, skits, games, testimonies, special prayers, and group discussions. Sitting in groups of six, young and old learned and grew together across generations. Each gathering began with shared meals—supper on the first two days, a fellowship lunch on Sabbath, and brunch on Sunday—where hearts connected and friendships deepened. Sessions then continued with praise and worship, followed by an intense seasonal prayer before the day’s message. Assisted by missionaries Dosung Kim and his wife Anita from Bolivia, Pr Don also offered special daily prayers for families.
Each meeting challenged attendees—from family worship to Bible reading and witnessing. The latest challenge invited adults to choose a child, teen, or young adult to become their daily partners in prayer, Bible study, and ministry. Just as Elijah was instructed to anoint Elisha and mentor him to continue God’s work, the teams formed in Glasgow Church have been encouraged to develop the same mentoring relationship. Pr Don explained that while adults and youth bring different strengths, their ministry is stronger together. Each team’s daily assignment is to read a chapter from the Gospel of Mark, pray, share, and hold each other accountable in meeting their challenges. Pr Don will hold a follow-up online meeting next month with all the teams.
Attendees left inspired to follow God’s voice, depend on the Spirit, strengthen their families, and live out their faith daily. Adina Lupu, who led the revival committee, shared that the Last Elijah message had reshaped the foundation of her walk with Jesus. Members praised the engaging, all-age sessions, called for more revivals, and committed to sharing God’s love in their homes and communities.
Local pastor Claudiu Popescu reflected after the event: “We have just concluded one of the most exciting and renewing weekends in the recent history of Glasgow Church. The question now is—what happens next? Revival doesn’t come from a programme but from God Himself, who throughout history has worked in unexpected ways to revive His people. When our walk with Christ is strong, revival isn’t needed, but because we often fall short, it becomes essential. The Spirit’s power we experienced in Glasgow will not sustain itself; it must be nurtured through prayer, discipline, and daily trust in God. Our challenge now is to carry this renewed spirit into everyday life, avoiding complacency and staying rooted in Christ.”
The Last Elijah Revival will be remembered as a Spirit-filled spark that ignited discipleship, strengthened families, deepened devotion to Christ, and inspired bold mission.
