Highland Prayer Initiative Reflects the Vision of OneVoice27

The monthly Prayer for Inverness and the Highlands gatherings are providing a local expression of the global OneVoice27 vision, bringing Christians together in prayer for spiritual renewal across the region.

As the global Seventh-day Adventist Church prepares for the 2,000-year anniversary of Jesus' baptism in 2027, the OneVoice27 initiative is inviting church members worldwide to unite in prayer, Scripture, and mission. Its heartbeat is simple: a global church seeking God together before speaking for Him together.

In the Scottish Highlands, elements of that vision are finding expression through the monthly Prayer for Inverness and the Highlands gatherings. The initiative seeks to bring Christians together in prayer for their communities while encouraging a renewed focus on discipleship and spiritual renewal.

Reflecting on the spiritual foundation behind the initiative, Pastor Wilfred Masih of Inverness Seventh-day Adventist Church said, "Discipleship begins with prayer. Before Jesus sent His followers, He taught them to seek the Father, to listen, to surrender, and to align their hearts with His purposes. Prayer is the soil in which discipleship grows; it is where vision is shaped, courage is formed, and love for people is renewed. Jesus teaches that prayer is participation in the Father's will, a joining of earth to heaven through trust, surrender, and love. When a community prays, it steps into this divine rhythm together, seeking God's presence and opening space for the Spirit to work in ways we cannot manufacture."

A New Initiative for the Highlands

Standing above the River Ness, Inverness Castle has long been a symbol of the city. Yet more enduring than stone or structure is the belief that God has been present with Inverness through every generation. Through seasons of peace and hardship, cultural change and spiritual searching, many Christians believe the Lord has never withdrawn His presence from this place.

Against this backdrop, Christian church leaders gathered outside Inverness Castle on Saturday 16 May 2026 for the first monthly Prayer for Inverness and the Highlands gathering. In a society increasingly distant from faith and the practice of prayer, organisers hope the initiative will help rekindle spiritual life across the region.

On that occasion, Pastor Wilfred Masih and the Inverness Seventh-day Adventist Church were invited to lead the prayer session.

The gathering took place in a quiet space outside the Castle, offering a simple but meaningful opportunity for public participation. Passers-by were welcome to join, prayer requests were shared, and everyone present had the opportunity to lift their voice before God. A spirit of common purpose rested over the group as leaders prayed for the people of Inverness, a city with its own challenges, hopes, and deep need for renewal.

Prayer as the Seed of Renewal

Pastor Masih sees the initiative as part of a long tradition of spiritual renewal that begins with prayer.

"Every revival in Scripture and history begins the same way — not with strategy, not with programmes, but with people who pray," he said. "As Christians stand together before God on behalf of Inverness and the Highlands, they are planting seeds that only the Spirit can grow. Some seeds may take root unseen. Others may blossom in ways we do not expect. But all of them matter."

The hope behind the initiative is that through united prayer, faith will be renewed, hope restored, and hearts awakened across the Highlands.
