Planting Seeds of Faith at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival

Amid the buzz of the world’s largest arts festival, members of the Edinburgh church took to the streets to share messages of faith, hope, and kindness.

On 20 August, members of the Edinburgh church took to Princes Street during the world-famous Fringe Festival, bringing more than just festival cheer. The team distributed specially prepared bags containing a bottle of water, a biscuit, and a copy of Steps to Christ.

The Fringe Festival, renowned as the largest arts festival in the world, attracts thousands of visitors to the city every August. Against the backdrop of street performances and bustling crowds, church members shared a message of kindness and hope.

The initiative sparked warm responses from festivalgoers. One lady became visibly moved, saying how “nice and kind it was” for the group to do something so thoughtful for the public. Alongside the gifts, volunteers engaged in meaningful conversations, and even paused to pray with several individuals.

The children who participated brought their own energy to the day. Though excited and a little nervous, they bravely handed out the bags—each one a simple act of service.

“We may not know the far-reaching effects of our efforts,” said Fitzroy Morris, pastor of the Edinburgh Seventh-day Adventist church, “but we pray that the Holy Spirit will nurture the seeds we planted yesterday.”

With hopes of making this an annual event, organisers are already envisioning a larger-scale effort for next year’s Fringe Festival.
