Shared Communion and Fellowship Deepen Ties Between Inverness and Elgin Churches
Members and friends of the Inverness and Elgin Seventh-day Adventist Churches gathered at St Giles’ Church in Elgin on 20 September for a joint day of worship and shared fellowship, strengthening connections across the Highlands.
Members and friends of the Inverness and Elgin Seventh-day Adventist Churches came together on Saturday, 20 September, for a joint day of worship and fellowship at St Giles’ Church in Elgin.
The programme included a worship service, a sermon by Pastor Wil Masih, and a Holy Communion service. Pastor Masih spoke on forgiveness, restoration, and the inclusive nature of the Communion table. “The Communion table is where heaven meets the broken,” he said. “It reminds us that Christ’s body was broken so that ours can be made whole. It’s not about what we’ve done, but about what Christ has accomplished for us.” He emphasised that Communion is not reserved for the perfect but is an invitation to all who seek forgiveness, restoration, and a renewed relationship with God.
During the service, participants reflected quietly as the bread and wine were shared, symbolising Christ’s body and blood, in an act of remembrance and recommitment.
Several first-time visitors attended and spoke positively about the welcome they received and the service itself. One guest described the Communion as “deeply personal,” adding, “I experienced God’s presence in a way I can’t fully explain.”
Following the service, members and visitors joined together for a shared meal. The meal provided an opportunity for both congregations to connect, with long-standing friendships strengthened and new connections formed.
This joint fellowship day offered a valued opportunity for the Inverness and Elgin churches to strengthen their ties, provide mutual support, and look ahead to future joint initiatives in mission and ministry. Although the two congregations are about 40 miles apart in the Highlands, members made the journey to gather together, highlighting the importance of connection across the district. Church leaders from both congregations expressed gratitude for the success of the event and, above all, for the evident presence of the Holy Spirit throughout the day.
