Building a Culture of Discipleship in Scotland
Bringing together church members from across Scotland, the Alloa gathering marked another important step in building a more intentional culture of discipleship and evangelism within the Scottish Mission.
As part of the Scottish Mission’s ongoing focus on discipleship, church leaders and members with a shared passion for evangelism gathered in Alloa to explore what it means to build a culture of intentional spiritual growth. More than a training day, the gathering formed part of a wider conversation about following Jesus and helping others do the same. It also contributed to a broader discipleship and apologetics vision being developed across the Mission—one that seeks greater clarity, consistency, and intentionality in how faith is lived and shared in a secular society. Each training is designed to build toward a coherent approach that equips leaders and members to cultivate stronger discipleship.
A Day of Learning and Encouragement
Held on Sunday, 26 April at the Inglewood Hotel, the event combined biblical reflection, discussion, worship, and prayer, creating a space for learning, encouragement, and renewed purpose.
Hosted by the Personal Ministries Department and facilitated by Pr Wil Masih, the programme included presentations, small-group discussions, and a wider conversation on strengths, priorities, and practical ways to nurture discipleship locally.
Discipleship in Practice
Opening the day, Pr Masih reflected on Jesus’ encounter with the woman at the well, presenting it as a model of relational discipleship—beginning with simple conversation and leading to transformation that inspires others to “come and see.” He emphasised that at the heart of discipleship is a transformed individual whose life points others to Christ and inspires them to do the same.
Participants then met in church groups to reflect on their contexts, identifying strengths, gaps, and priorities. As groups shared back, common themes emerged: the need for intentional relationships, consistent follow-up, and church environments that actively support spiritual growth.

A second presentation by Pr Ratko Risteski explored discipling in a post-Christian culture, highlighting the importance of understanding local communities and communicating the gospel in ways that are both faithful and relevant.
OneVoice27
Following lunch and worship, attention turned to the launch of the OneVoice27 global evangelism initiative. In a video message, Scottish Mission President Pr Jimmy Botha encouraged churches and members to take part in this significant, media-focused initiative, urging them to use social media to share their faith and be active witnesses in their everyday digital spaces, while highlighting the unique opportunity to join the global church in using every available form of digital evangelism to reach others for Christ.
With September 2027 set as the global harvest point for evangelism initiatives across the world church, the day in Alloa carried a strong sense of purpose and anticipation. As 2027 approaches, marking 2,000 years since the baptism of Christ and the beginning of His public ministry in AD 27, churches and members are being encouraged to prayerfully consider how they can be involved, in consultation with their local pastors and church leaders.
Funding is available to support suitable OneVoice27 projects, and interested churches or members are encouraged to contact Pr Wilfred Masih for further information.
A Growing Movement
The gathering in Alloa highlighted a growing movement across the Scottish Mission. Through shared learning, prayer, and collaboration, churches are developing a more intentional approach to discipleship— one that will continue to mature and find expression as new mission opportunities unfold.
