Dundee Pathfinders Shine On 74th World Pathfinder Day
In celebration of the 74th World Pathfinder Day*, themed “Jesus Camps With Us,” the Dundee church hall was transformed into a campsite under a starry night, complete with a bonfire, tent, and chairs, symbolising the idea of Christ camping with His people.
The day’s celebrations began early with a Pathfinder Colour Party march, where members, dressed in their uniforms, proudly carried the flags of Scotland and the Pathfinder organisation while the congregation sang the anthems.
The parade was followed by a special church service, which served as the spiritual heart of the day’s activities. The young Pathfinders led the service, taking on roles like reading scripture, collecting tithes and offerings, delivering sermons, and performing music. The church was filled with uplifting hymns and songs from the youth. The Pathfinders also explained the significance of their organisation’s logo, aim, motto, and pledge to the congregation, helping everyone understand what Pathfinders stand for.
Though the Dundee Pathfinders were celebrating locally, they recognised that they are part of a worldwide community with the shared mission of serving God and helping others.
In the afternoon, the Dundee Pathfinders participated in a community service project focused on cleaning up local parks and streets around the church neighbourhood. Equipped with litter pickers and bin bags, they worked together in teams to beautify the area, demonstrating the importance of environmental stewardship and service. The activity was well-organised and supervised by club leaders. In addition to improving the local environment, the project instilled a sense of responsibility in the young Pathfinders for caring for their community.
As the sun began to set, the Dundee Pathfinders were pleasantly surprised with refreshments provided by their leaders. This shared meal marked a memorable close to the day, especially for members who were leaving Dundee. The time of fellowship gave the Pathfinders an opportunity to reflect on the past and contemplate the future of their club. The warm, communal atmosphere as they dined and spent time together allowed everyone to relax and bond over their shared ideals.
As the Dundee Pathfinders wrapped up their Pathfinder Day celebration, they looked to the future with a renewed sense of purpose. This occasion was not just a celebration but also a reminder of the work that still lies ahead. With each passing year, the Pathfinder club continues to grow, offering diverse activities designed to instil values of leadership, service, and faith in the next generation. For the Dundee Pathfinders, Pathfinder Day is not only a celebration; it also serves as a dedication to community service and living a life rooted in spiritual principles. As they continue to grow and learn, this annual celebration will remain a cherished tradition, bringing together Pathfinders from all walks of life to honour the values they hold dear.
