Scottish Mission Welcomes a New Pastor

Scottish Mission welcomes a new pastor, Pr Fitzroy Morris, to serve the Edinburgh, Dunfermline, and Musselburgh churches.

Following the farewell of Pr Gabriel Perea and his family in January 2023, the Scottish Mission welcomes a new pastor, Pr Fitzroy Morris, to serve the Edinburgh, Dunfermline and Musselburgh churches, along with his wife Neacha, and two sons, Matthias, 8, and Andre, 6.

Originally from Jamaica, Pr Morris relocated to the UK in 1999. Up until 2018, he worked in the health and social care sector. When asked what prompted the occupational change, Pr Morris admits that for many years he had been encouraged by pastors and friends alike to go into ministry but he kept putting it off. ‘I was like Jonah, running from God’ he says. In the beginning of 2018, Pr Morris says he had a ‘strong impression from God that it was time’. It was then, after prayerful deliberation, that he enrolled at Newbold College.

The call to minister in Scotland came ‘out of the blue’ for Pr Morris and his family as the family had never been to Scotland nor considered moving to Scotland before. However, after committing this decision to God in prayer, Pr Morris and his wife felt compelled to accept the call as Scotland had ticked all their key prayer points.

I ask Pr Morris to share with me his hopes for his ministry in Scotland. He says his hope is to see spiritual growth and the movement of God in our churches. He expresses his desire to be actively involved in the community and for our churches to become known within the community of which they are part of.

When asked what he would want church members to know about him as a person, Pr Morris responds with ‘I’m down to earth and I love to laugh. I am a beggar, begging for the bread of life to live and wanting to share it with all people.’ It is very clear that Pr Morris’ heart is for people. ‘Wherever your passion lies, I will always support you and pour resources into maximising your full potential,’ he says.

Pr Morris used to play semi-professional football in Jamaica and his love for sport remains. This is evident as it didn’t take a lot of convincing for Pr Morris to join the Reflecting Hope Scotland team in their recent cycling venture in Shetland before he'd even started his employment.

Pr Morris begins his ministerial journey feeling ‘fired up’ but also slightly overwhelmed. As a man of great faith, he chooses to rely on God and to let the Holy Spirit lead him onward.

We invite you to keep Pr Morris and his family in your prayers as they settle in Scotland.
